Generally, that was how it worked in the past, depending on the rp. Radiance Lost had a 2 combat rp, 1 social rp limit at a given time. Not sure about RoE or Skylessia, but I believe its still okay.

The difference between RL and RoE was that RL let people have like six characters. With this, I feel like Echo has a point, though. I understand the problems with trying to keep track of that many RPs at once as a mod, but I feel like in this case two SRPs isn't going to make things fly off the rails if they already have to be relatively self contained.

In order for multiple Insurrection rps to work, we'd need to establish a timeline. It's how RL managed to get it to work.
Like most things about RL's administrative structure, the timeline didn't necessarily work as good as it should have on paper, most of the time. It was never updated for most of its existence, because it was labour intensive on the mods' end, and most players couldn't be bothered to sort things out on their end. anastasia kept things running really smoothly with the timeline at one point, but like... that was her specific job in addition to the regular topic grading everyone had to do. Just like it was my job to grade profiles. And when she eventually became less active and had to step down, things went back to how they were.
No one is suggesting that we do anything like that. That's the kind of mod-workload that this RP's design seems specifically geared to avoid. But SRPs are already not meant to effect anything big enough to require former recognition -- it should be enough for people to sort out when things are happening with those for themselves, because it's probably not going to conflict with anything too important.

I didn't say it worked well. Perhaps it would work better with the smaller user base, but if it gets as active as RL was, it would probably break down.
I will say we should probably at least establish some sort of time frame in the insurrection rps, in case it happens to show up in the Observations of the Scholar Relius.

A. I repeat Echo's earlier question about having one character being able to be in an [IRP], [SRP] and [SUPPORT].
B. Have an informal timeline and just have it be updated by members by c/p'ing the last person's template and posting it in a Timeline Update thread. Mods can then read the progression of updates, check anything erroneous, and update the original post timeline using approved 'last post's. C. HEY WS USE THIS The stones used to construct the original Church of St. Elimine were blessed by Divine Dragons from days before the Scouring. As a testament to the sorrow felt by Elimine and her followers over the war fought against the once-noble dragons, and to the stalwart spirits of mankind, the stones were gathered from across Elibe and constructed into a massive cathedral. For generations, the Church of St. Elimine served as both the spiritual center for all mankind to find inner peace and salvation in their lives, as well as the most potent focal point for the Light magic that St. Elimine learned from the Divine Dragons.

As it stands, if you miss openings or an open one isn't interesting/doesn't work for the character, you're screwed. Now that I finally have some measure of support from the other two RP mods and the RP community is steadily growing, I'll allow members to have two characters each if they want. Seems like everyone has been asking for more opportunities to RP, so there you go. Furthermore, since Social RPs and Supports do not receive consideration for Timeline updates, there shall be no restriction on the number of [SRP]s or [Support]s a character is in. I'll update the rules thread. Now go RP your brains out.
I wanted to put some sort of write-up together for House Laus so that there is some level of continuity if the territory is referenced:
// HOUSE LAUS Despite its army being ruined in the War of Seals and the Marquess Erik killed by Roy's army, Laus remained a prominent territory in the Lycian League. Its central location among the various marches of the league contribute to its status as a major economic center, which Erik's successor exploited to protect the march from its rivals. With the power to considerably damage the prosperity of most other Lycian marches, Laus continued to be a power player in Lycian politics, with Ostia, Pherae, and Badon as its chief political rivals. However, Laus' betrayals against Lycia remained a stain on its reputation for the hundred years after its defeat in battle against Roy. Although it had regained its status among the other Lycian marches in the century since the war, the selfish political moves by the predecessors of the Laus marquessate remains a sensitive topic. Day Zero minus 19 years Lord Reynert, the heir to the Laus marquessate, unexpectedly marries one of his maids, Melinda. Days later, the couple announces that they have a child. Although there is no quantified proof, the Laus nobility suspect that their child is illegitimate. A move to investigate the couple's background prior to marriage was blocked by Reynert's brother Hannes, the son of the marquess and the matter remains a whispered rumor. The marriage drew attention among the Lycian houses and was even noted in Bern and Etruria for the rarity of a noble to marry a commoner. Day Zero minus 18 years Lady Melinda and her sister-in-law Anita, wife of Hannes, are assassinated in the aftermath of an explosion. It is believed that the motive was dissent for Anita's commoner background and that Anita was killed as a result of Hannes' cover-up. However, investigation fails to uncover the culprit. Day Zero minus 15 years The Marquess Laus dies of illness. Although Reynert was to inherit the throne, Hannes ascends the marquessate at Reynert's request. Marquess Hannes names his son Lucian as his heir, making Reynert and his daughter Cecily the second and third-in-line, respectively. Day Zero minus 2 years The reorganization of the Lycian League into an empire and the appointment of the Emperor of Lycia generates uncertainty among the Lausian nobility, out of concern for how Ostia could wield its new influence over Laus. Despite this, Marquess Hannes supports the Emperor's rise to power. Lady Cecily travels to Etruria to pursue personal studies. Day Zero minus 1 year The ending of the trade agreements between Lycia and Etruria deals a blow to Laus' economy, but it strengthens Laus' influence over its neighbors, namely Worde, Ryerde, and Thria, through an agreement that lowered tariffs to the marches. However, since the Church of Sanctity is based in Thria, the Thrian march was the most resistant to Laus' political strides. As tariffs towards Thria is higher than the other involved marches, it created the unintended side-effect of cementing the Church's influence over its citizens, since the less devout migrated to the neighboring marches to profit from the more favorable prices of imported goods from Laus. Day Zero minus 9 months The Laus marquessate announces its enforcement of the ban on dark and anima magic, also known as the Sanctity laws. Persecution of mages and magical scholars in Laus begins. Day Zero The Lausian army participates in the invasion of Etruria under the command of Lord Reynert, sweeping from the southern border to the provinces north of the capital Aquleia to cut off Etrurian reinforcements. The maneuver places the Lausian army on an interception course with Etrurian refugees. Surviving refugees claim war crimes were committed against the citizens, though evidence of such were scarce and Lord Reynert claims to be unaware of the existence of the crimes. Day Zero plus 1 month Lady Cecily returns to Laus under Lycian escort. Her time within hostile territory draws suspicion of her allegiances, though no proof of heresy or traitorous depositions could be determined. Day Zero plus 2 months With the capitulation of the Etrurian monarchy, Reynert's army returnes to the Lausian march. The Laus marquessate reiterates its enforcement of the Sanctity laws against practicing mages and magical scholars. Lady Cecily, on behalf of Laus, reaches out to the new Lycian marches for political alliances. The Eight Republics begin operations in opposition to the marquessate's decision within Laus, smuggling tomes and refugees in and out of the city. Day Zero plus 6 months Lady Cecily survives an attempt on her life while traveling to a meeting in Badon. Although it created tension between Laus and Badon, Cecily insists that an attack on a foreign dignitary should only serve as an indication that Badon must invest in providing better security for its people. With her insistence, the incident not surmount to any political pressure on Badon and the planned meeting adjourned without further complications. Insurrection - Lady Cecilia "Cecily" of Laus, third in line to the Laus marquessate

I didn't see an actual explanation of why we have no levels/weapons system in place, since I have not played Fire Emblem in forever, I was just wondering why it is in effect? Promotions and such things are an area that is not useful, I believe?

It was discussed here prior to the rp starting up. We figured we're all responsible enough not to go crazy with it. Plus, the levels limited things a bit, and because Awakening allows class-changing and magic and weapons, there was no real need for a class system. Just don't go overboard. No Arch Sage Paladins riding a Wyvern wielding the Sword of Seals and Eckesachs.

Levels introduce restrictions, can isolate new RPers if left in effect for an extended period of time (i.e., "high-leveled characters only"), and make for a lot more bookkeeping for both mods and RPers. Simply put, the cons of a levels system outweighed the pros, in our opinion; we didn't feel they were necessary to produce an enjoyable RP experience.

Hey, so I wrote a new character profile (which hasn't been approved yet) and then immediately became dissatisfied with it and rewrote it extensively (more or less the same core concept but better justified and a little less implausible). Is it possible for me to submit the revised version in place of the one I've already submitted, or do I have to wait for it to be rejected/approved first?

No need to wait - you can just submit the revised one with a note saying "this is replacing so-and-so" and I'll take care of the rest.

Just a minor update - I did some housekeeping and locked some old, crusty RP threads that no one had posted in since July.

Quote:-Support RPs [Support] are typically for two characters, with permission from an RP mod, to explore relationships, develop chemistry, or otherwise have a back-and-forth conversation. A character may be in as many of these as they are approved for. Out of curiosity, why do we need permission from a mod for supports?
02-20-2015, 11:35 PM
You know, now that I'm looking at it, we probably don't. I think I just got lazy when tweaking rules from the old site and left it there because it didn't seem odd to me at first glance.
I'll fix that up to remove the "mod permission" only bit and set up a place that's for supports. |
