I have wavering luck when it comes to shinies. I think the coolest looking one I ever had was a shiny Drifblim.
...man, I want to battle again. I'll probably get crushed because my knowledge of what strategies are good is about two generations old, but whatever. Water types are still boss, right?

If you know how to battle in Diamond/Pearl/Platinum, you'll know how to battle in X/Y. It's pretty much the same way, except some pokemon are given new egg moves. You'll have to double-check some pokemon on occasion to see if their movesets are running anything new.
I think my biggest troubles are dealing with the increase in overall power level since Gen 5. So many things where I'm like "Wow, that's kind of broken" and I look it up and find out there are worse things out there that haven't been Uber-fied.

And Smogonbird is still running rampant in OU.
At least Excadrill got sent back to OU.
Also... New Megas
Salamence gets AERILATE. You thought Mega Pinsir was bad? This is straight-up Uber.
I saw it coming. It's ability, paired with King's Shield and Shadow Sneak, effectively makes Aegislash a practical 60/150/150/150/150/60 pokemon if used correctly. Yeah, it needed a ban.
I'm really not impressed by Smogonbird honestly (assuming you're talking about Talonflame) mainly because it's hugely a one-trick-pony. You've seen one Talonflame, you may as well have seen 'em all. Oh, and stealth rock ensures it's not going to be on the field more than once. That's probably why it's not getting used in Uber battles.
Salamence on the other hand... JFC. He's already annoying enough to deal with, but Aerialate? AND HE LEARNS DOUBLE-EDGE!? Get prepared for those 156-BP flying type STABs.
