UPDATE:
What started as a search for a book burner led Paige on a quest to unravel the empire's secrets. Paige's adventures had revealed two secrets of the Lycian Empire: The name of the mysterious ruler:
Emperor Coran of the Lycian Empire
and
that the emperor may have a living relative, one that could challenge him for the throne.
Her adventures took on a new goal: find this heir and save Lycia's legacy with a new ruler. That was not to be however.
During the events of "Bernese Ball", Paige was separated from her friends. Instead of joining them in fleeing Bern and recapturing Laus, the young librarian was pulled aside during the ball by an enigmatic group. They represented an international society of rogue scholars known as the Divine Generals' Council. Their warning to Paige: for the sake of Elibe's future, do not pursue Lycia's heir.
The DGC believed the world would always be under the threat of a second Scouring. Their goal was to preserve as much knowledge, artifacts, and bloodlines linked to that era as possible. Should the time come when dragons threaten the world, they would be in a position to advise and train the inheritors of the the Eight Generals' destiny. Lycia's brewing civil war threatens to destroy much of that knowledge. The wanton use of the legendary weapon Aureola could cost them in the future if it were destroyed. And if Roland's bloodline was spent over a human civil war, they would forever lose an ally in a future war against dragons. It was best to let the war play out while Lycia's heir remained hidden.
Rather than dismiss Paige, they offered her a position. She would be traveling across Elibe in the pursuit of preserving knowledge of the Scouring. Regardless of the outcome of the Insurrection, Paige also feared that the Lycia of elder days was forever lost. Much as she wanted to help her friends fight for Lycia's future, she agreed with the council that Elibe's long-term survival was at greater risk.
As she continued her travels alone, she truly hoped for the best for the people she met. Perhaps their paths would cross again...
