Knoll discussed the Light/Dark dichotomy in FE8 during a support conversation with Natasha; I think the only one that didn't get a "source" is Anima.

Knoll: "Hm... Well, I suppose you are right about that. Your magic stems from faith in the unknowable, the divine presence. In contrast, dark magic stems from knowledge, from understanding. We distrust what we do not understand and we strive to know the unknowable. Perhaps our disciplines truly are incompatible."

And that is true about Anima users being on the Light's side. I haven't played Awakening yet, so I'm not quite up to speed on some of the changes that have been made.
Somehow this RP talk is inspiring me to sprite o_O (keep it up).

As for awakening, not much has been said in-game about the nature of magic aside from hexes which are linked to dark magic (though apparently roughly anyone capable of magic has the ability to cast them).
I'd be in favor of something more simple this time around. I'm quite ready to blame an obsession with world building as a consistent factor in previous disinterest, so let's a hold off on that until we get more members. Lots of members.

(IB's first post in New forum)
Well, as I said, there are only two schools of magic.

There is normal magic, which can be presumed to be channeling Naga's power, and there is dark magic, which can be presumed to be channeling Grima's power. I believe staves fall under the power of Naga as well. At any rate, we can change the names of Naga and Grima to whatever when it's up and running, and add in others as needed.
Since we are going off of Awakening stuff here, why don't we just use the setting as well? If we don't want to mess up much of the established setting, we could just have a lot of it based in the Valmese Continent, since if I remember correctly not a lot of it was established and it wouldn't interfere much with the Awakening storyline. We could have it set before Chroms birth in that case.

Or perhaps many years later in a timeline where Grima was put to sleep instead of killed by Tactitician. Perhaps the Grimleal could have grown so massive that they managed to rewrite history any make the people believe that Naga was the dark one. I don't know, its a crazy idea, but we really wouldn't need to come up with a new continent and countries.
Or we could come up with a vague idea of TWO AND ONLY TWO nations.

That really complex roleplay I keep going on about? Started as a conflict of Lawful Good vs. Chaotic Evil in a world made up of two countries. Literally, the entire planet was made up of two nations on one continent.

I propose as names for the two nations: Atust and Lercril. (This is, of course, assuming you guys want do do it that way)

And whatever we decide, we should still be able to make ourselves laugh.
Well, before we begin, or before this brainstorming runs on forever, is there anyone who is going to approve/finalize/monitor (or whatever that is needed to get this going) the overall RP? Will there be any staff or moderator in charge of this section at all?
I'll be demoting some admins and promoting some members for different positions, eventually.
Right now, the forums have five admins and nothing else.
This forum's origin story is like that of the Elder Scrolls or something. Some must diminish and become mods, while others pass into the obscurity of the userbase.
I'll volunteer to be a mod, but NOT, absolutely NOT the head honcho. I've seen what that shit does to people. *looks at absent Foe and Vel*

Entirely possible that they saw that Sky was a sinking ship with interest plummeting dramatically.

Not against the rise of a new RP, obviously. But you folks have a difficult endeavor ahead of you.
True enough. Sky had a great concept, but yeah, it kind of lore'd itself into the ground. I'm totally cool with brainstorming, but I lack the discipline necessary to be any sort of authority figure, personally.
You know, one of the big hangups in the last RP discussion was the need for precisely defined landmasses when we'd only be hanging around the city and it's grounds.

I think we can just say "X is west of Y, and Y is north and south of X," or something. Someone can draw a map later, if it's required, but I don't think it should be something that's very important immediately.

As far as the staffing goes, I think perhaps three people would be more than enough for the moment.
Like I said earlier, we could use the Awakening setting. The existing countries could be replaced with something else further into the timeline, but we wouldn't have to come up with a map. Well, maybe change a couple things, but its not a strange idea to non-Sky rps that the old board had. For Dark of Night we destroyed and rebuilt Elibe into Maris, and technically speaking even Intelligent Systems did the same thing with Awakening.

Yeah, there is a little issue with two continents and a currently small member base but we don't have to use the Valmese continent until we have enough people/characters to make use of it.
I like that idea, because we can start off with a smaller territory that branches off from there if the userbase grows.
We could start with a handful of city-states on one of the continents, slowly trying to establish contact with one another and grow and engage in trade and politics and stuff. It could be an interesting break from having a bunch of ancient well-established countries founded by mighty heroes. This could be a new world growing out of the ashes of the old.

Interesting idea. However, I caution against having too many different city states. I also dislike the idea of a politic based RP, largely due to my lack of skill at it. Political intrigue is a very alluring story device, I'll admit, but it's also quite complicated, and were we not aiming for something simple?

It could be a background element that can get expanded upon later into the rp. You know...as our characters earn more prestige for their deeds in the individual city states where they can actually influence things.

Re: Cities, it'd probably be like one or two until the need called for more, I just made the number a vague "handful" to give room for that. And I agree, going straight into politics would be kind of overwhelming. Maybe a couple of people who feel the need to get into it could, like Swift said, use the notoriety from their exploits to get into the intrigue.
Just throwing my hat in the list of potential mods. I have the experience, mostly from the Radiance Lost RP, and am willing to volunteer once more.
