"For Lycia!" The shouts began as soon as the insurgents stepped foot into the bailey. First went the excitable brigand and some of the other strong types, followed by the thieves. Renata added a shout of her own and drew her sword as she ran. Though their blood lust was frightening, Renata understood it. This was a chance to strike back against so much injustice.
With the extinguishing of the lights, things became clearer. Her eyes still used to the dark, Renata now saw the guards converging on some sort of barracks, the fighters working to block their advance while the thieves attacked and searched the wardens. She leaped into action to take one down, trusting her comrades to handle the others. She wondered if her attempts to drill some of them on sword techniques in the past week had made any difference.
"Right!" She had to shout back at Tiras over the chaos. "Do you suppose he's in there?" She motioned to the barracks as more guards arrived to challenge the brigands, who by now had broken their defensive line into a frenzied mob. Renata wondered how many soldiers could possibly be garrisoned in a prison.
