As if she told him through her mind, Satsume tossed Paige her old rapier. Though it remained broken in half from their last encounter, it was still long enough to serve as a dagger. Unfortunately, they were in a warzone: hardly the environment for close combat. The librarian longed for the days of duels with rules and structure.
Before Paige could figure out how to proceed, Lita and her giant armored friend busted into the building, taking on several opponents at once. The strength of Goldhardt was only matched by Lita’s exuberant confidence, something Paige would have really liked to have at this moment. Between them and Leroy, much of the bandit force was preoccupied with them. This allowed Paige to sneak between foes and head towards Shad, who seemed to have run out of the luck that carried him through so many battles before. Bandits were beginning to converge on his position.
As soon as Paige was close enough, she rushed in and stabbed one of the bandits in the back. The bandit crashed into the ground with a thud, leaving an opening for Shad to escape. Paige waved her broken rapier at the remaining bandits to keep them back.
“Go!” Paige shouted at Shad, pointing towards Lita and Goldhardt. The safest place was behind that hunk of armor the dancer stood upon. Paige would cover his escape and do the same: she had no interest in fighting all of these foes.
