Paige was standing still, not daring to defy her captors. Though she may have saved the Lycian civilians from fighting a losing battle, it had cost her dearly. It may have cost her and her allies their lives. There would be no way to find the heir to Lycia if she had her head cutoff. She only hoped that she could reason with Raul to spare the others. She prepared her plea as some emerged from the inn.

Paige wasn’t sure what happened next. Unexpectedly, a lady had come out singing. The librarian found herself entranced in the song along with the soldiers beside her. She swayed back and forth, her eyelids becoming heavy. Not even Satsume’s bellows could chase the song from her head. She fell to her knees, struggling to stay awake. The soldiers behind her would have joined her had Alice not take them out.

Everything was moving in slow motion. The strikes against Satsume’s spear. Alice flying through the air. Was that Fred over there? Paige couldn’t keep up with the fighting around her. She barely reacted when blood splattered across her back when Alice took out one of the soldiers. She saw Raul pointing at her, but shortly after, he too crumpled over, succumbing to the sleep.

“That looks nice right now…”

The last thing Paige felt were her hands being unbound. She thought she heard a voice address her, but alas, the spell had finally taken her. Paige slumped over on her side, passed out and unresponsive.
