Ellie struggled to gather herself as the world spun a mile a minute. She squinted against the light as she opened her eyes. She'd made a mistake, being so quick on the offensive; she hoped she hadn't put her friends in any more danger than they were already in.
"Please, let me," Paige said to the soldier. "They need you out here."
"Eh, you're right. Take him to the back room with the other prisoner."
Ellie found the source of the voice came from two familiar looking young women. She shook her head lightly and her eyes met Paige's, if only for a moment. Her head hung low as she slumped against Paige, and the two limped off towards a back room. As the door shut behind them, Paige sat Ellie gently on a chair near the wounded Bernese soldier.
"Here, do you mind if I check your wounds? I can't use a staff, but I might be able to do something with a vulnerary."
She wiped the blood from her face and nodded, a little better off with something to lean on. Ellie tilted her head back and heaved a sigh of relief.
"I'm sorry, that was dumb," she admitted, wincing as Paige unbuckled the belt across her chest; her ribs throbbed as her friend pulled at her shirt, lifting it slowly and as gently as she could...
Wait...
"Paige!" Ellie whispered in a panic. She looked down and grabbed at Paige's wrist, probably harder than she should have.
What a way to tell her...
"My name isn't Eli..." she muttered, red in the face. She relinquished her grip on Paige's wrist and stared down into her own lap. Surely Paige wouldn't be mad at her for keeping it a secret, would she? Her eyes wandered back to meet Paige's, unsure of what would come next.
