Paige was fully alert once the sounds of marching became apparent. She had to think fast as soldiers were approaching. The librarian was well aware that they could be recognized from the events in Santaruz. Yet, they weren't followed here (at least, Paige and Eli weren't). It was possible that those in Santaruz were still looking elsewhere for them. Paige was willing to take a gamble and assume that they wouldn't be recognized.

"Trust me," she whispered to the others. While Satsume was against the wall, Paige boldly walked out of the alley to meet the soldiers. She waved to them to get their attention.

"Good day, sirs," Paige said with a bright smile. "So many soldiers in the streets today. Is this another parade?"
