It had been only a day since Paige had arrived in Tania with Ellie, yet she was already contemplating leaving. The silence of the village was quite unsettling, the calm before the storm. From what Paige had gathered, Bern struck in the east. This wasn't a mere raid: the rest of their army was likely headed this way. To the west, Ostia's forces would gather to fight the invasion. War had come to Lycia once more, with Paige caught right in the middle.
She had no intention of taking sides in this fight. While she knew Ostia no longer had the best interest of Lycia's people, the librarian knew less of Bern's intentions. While the kingdom had reformed, history had not been fond of Bernese incursions. Paige wanted a return of the old Lycia, not to have it become subservient to another country. She feared a war would weaken Lycia, opening the country to even more bandit raids, assaults by vengeful refugees, and (if the stories were to be believed) attacks by Sacaen tribes.
She feared the brunt of those attacks would affect civilians more than the Lycian army.
For the moment, Paige remained at the inn she was staying in, though her things were packed and ready to depart should things turn south. She was still a fugitive; the arrival of Lycian forces would only increase her chances of being captured. Yet Paige felt she had to do something to help the people weather the war to come. Fortunately, she had Ellie and Shad around to discuss their next move. They had yet to track down Yuri, but he likely wouldn't be far. Of course, with the army gathering, she suspected he wouldn't stick around for much longer.
Paige looked around the in to see if her companions were around.
