"Friar, you don't have to verbally respond, just nod or shake or head. Does the name Coran in relation to Ostia ring a bell?" Shad attempted. It was all he could do at this point in time.
The monk looked over to Shad, surprised that he knew of such a connection. He slowly nodded, still wondering who these people were.
"I knew it! You did write it!" Paige exclaimed. Finally, a lead. The trick was to get him to talk. The librarian was looking around for something in the cell.
"Does anyone see any paper? A book? Anything that can be written!" She was so close to another piece of the puzzle! Unfortunately, her excitement had attracted one of the guards.
"Hey, keep it down! At least let the man get one last good rest!"
"What?"
"The monk's scheduled for execution at dawn."
The news made Paige even more frantic: she started crawling on the ground in search of anything that would allow the man to keep his silence while giving them everything they needed to know about the Emperor. She didn't care that they had no escape plan; the truth was enough.
