When the woman offered to protect him, the Sacaean was relieved. Although he had no idea how competent she was with her rapier, at least he had someone to rely on so that he wouldn't have to reveal his secret.
"Thank you, I'll do as you say," Neil nodded.
Out of the corner of his eye, Neil saw the knight draw a suspiciously small rod from his side, presumably to use against the brigands. The mage had no idea why the man would use such a small stick against axes and swords. A sudden splurt of blood splattered onto his pants and the Sacaean instinctively stepped back.
"What the..."
The other two brigands shared his surprise and fled. Although the immediate threat was gone, it was clear that it would be dangerous for him to remain here.
The thought of helping came to mind, though at the same time, he wasn't sure whether he actually had to help. Rather than voicing that he could help, Neil decided to stay close to the woman who offered to help. Perhaps the knight, if he is really a Lycian, would overlook his presence until a later time.
