Hey guys! Hope you’re all well.

I’m currently developing a game with a very small group. Thanks to COVID, I had a lot of free time on my hands working from home and used my coding experience in a manner in which I’ve always dreamt of - game design. I was actually originally inspired by the Shining Force series (more specifically the first two) to create an SRPG with a more “modern” touch. However, as those games are quite old (damn, so am I?) and rather niche I’ve come to the next best place - a Fire Emblem community.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Fire Emblem too. I remember downloading the SNES ROM (uhh… legally playing a backup of my copy) well over a decade ago then going all the way through PoR, RD, Awakening, etc. I even bought a Switch solely for Three Houses!

I look at Fire Emblem as the more “hardcore” version of Shining Force! Well, at least the earlier versions of FE. I’m hoping to create a game that sits somewhere in the middle.

Anyway, regarding the actual game. We’ve laid down the groundworks, the basics of the game are up and running. We’re looking to crowdfund this eventually, probably not a popular choice among some people but we really wouldn’t be able to do it justice without additional funding. We’re currently commissioning a few artists to do some animations so we can get a real “feel” for how the game will look/play in the finished state. Here’s a quick rundown -

Superhero theme - The main distinction between this SRPG and most others will be the prominent theme of the game. It’s going to based around Superheroes and it’s going to play out in a modern (but fictional) setting.

2D - It’s going to be 2D. One thing I absolutely adore is the GBA battle animations. They’re clean, crisp and buttery smooth. Can’t beat them! Also, in all honesty, it’s easier for me to develop with minimal experience rather than jumping into 3D.

Voice acting - We currently have no plans to have voice acting in the game. It’d be nice, sure, but it also costs a lot of money when we’d rather put the funding into art assets.

Roaming - The initial plan was to have the standard story/battle/story transitions. However, I felt it to be a little monotonous at times. As mentioned, Shining Force was the original inspiration and they had a roaming phase where you could walk around the villages, buy equipment, talk to people, etc. We’re not going to be quite that detailed, we’re aiming to keep the roaming phase strictly to your home base. (Basically like 3H, roaming around the school.)

Support - Yes, we’re aiming to implement supports. However, we want them to switch them up a bit. We’re thinking something along the lines of “chemistry”. Meaning that the more they increase their chemistry, the better they fight alongside each other.

Permadeath - This is a bit of a tricky situation. I, personally, turn it off when I play… However, upon researching communities I have found that permadeath is a rather beloved (albeit frustrating) feature in the FE communities. The issue is, this game will have a smaller roster and we’re aiming to have each character play a role throughout the whole game. We don’t want you to recruit a random farmer that adds nothing to the story and if he dies you’ve forgotten about him by the end of the game. Our potential solution is to “de-power” the hero. Basically, if they suffer a near-fatal attack, they lose their powers and are unusable in combat there after. They’ll still appear in the story, though.

Unique units - On the subject of a smaller roster, this game will have unique units. Each character will be different. You won’t have four warriors that have different colored hair or armor and that’s the only distinction between them. Shining Force II had some palette swaps, but it also had a bunch of unique units, that’s something that I loved. It also helps us flesh the characters out a little more from a story point of view, with their powers all being different.

Weapon triangle and durability system - Finally, we won’t have weapons. I guess this might be obvious, but the characters will be using their powers. This system is the least “concrete” of them all, and currently the one that’s still heavily in a planning phase. Our idea is for each unit to have multiple attacks. The general attack would be their punch, kick, etc. However, say someone can shoot energy beams, it would be a ranged attack and instead of the standard weapon durability would cost energy. We’re looking at a cooldown system of sorts.

As for the triangle system, well we’re going to have to rework it. We’re debating two different ideas. One being the fighting “style” of the unit. Say strength, speed, mind, technique, etc.

The other idea is a power-based system. Energy, physical, elemental, etc.

Anyway, sorry for the lengthy post but I just wanted to get some really early, initial feedback from different people. If anyone has ideas, suggestions, feedback, anything at all then feel free to share! If you have a great idea then who knows we might implement it! (If we do we’ll send you a copy of the game and put your name in the credits.)

Thank you and have a great day!

Rater AN for absolutely nobody
*Rambling
*Krappy Enklizh
*Gargling

At first when I took a really really quick look at the game but really soon later when I checked again, I realized that it was developed by Splash Damage, dev studio behind Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory which is a game I loved so I had to try it out.... +it's free so why the hell not.
So yeah, it's definitely a Splash Damage game. A fast-paced objective based first person shoottery shooty shoot which sets in post-apocalyptic London... Oh goodie! Oh goodie! Me likey Mickey Mousey!

=Gameplay=
Like I mentioned before, the game was objective based, actually multi-objective would be more accurate, which means that K/D doesn't matter that much (which why 90% of Snipers are shit even tho their K/D is good) and you have to complete objectives in order to win, or stop the enemy doing them.
Every time attackers complete a primary objective, their spawn moves forward and defenders' backwards, to fight over the next objective. So basically Call of Dutiers can start learning to push harder than a woman giving a birth when attacking or pretend you're tiger mother when defending.

Another thing CoD player can start learning is to not aim down on sights in close and medium range because enemy's moving fast, trying to dodge your bullets while shooting at you and might even quickly spring out of your sight and open fire again... + you move slower when aiming, obviously, so you'll basically become a sitting duck. However, you can use iron sights for a split second to set your aim to the head level.
When you're in combat and "kill" the enemy player, (s)he can be helped up by his/her teammate so you want to finish them off before that happens. Melee finishes downed players off with one hit while shooting them require good amount of shots so if you can, use melee or try shooting the head.
Third thing would be abilities. IF YOU CAN THROW AMMO BOXES OR HEALTH PACKS, PLEASE DO SO! ..ffs.

The last thing worth of nothing that comes into my mind would be wall jumping which is a thing which can be used in the firefight (minimal penalty for shooting while jumping and stuff) and do some more or less impressive trickjumping to either flank the enemy, sneak past the enemy, just get past some obstacles instead of going around or get on places where the enemy don't expect you to go.

=Mercs=
There are currently 16 different mercs which all differ from each other in few different ways with variety of different abilities from Objective Specialist, which allows the merc to do objectives faster than others, to Proxy Mine, Turret, Minigun and Artillery.
One thing to note that mercs like champions/ Gods/ whatever in MOBAs which means multiple mercs per class/ role with some differences like for example Sparks is a medic who's fast with low HP, equipped with revive gun (well, actually machine pistol but revive gun is the way to go most of the time) which can revive teammates and snipe enemies from a distance and a small health packs while Sawbonez is slower but has more health and equipped SMGs, uses a defibrillator for reviving which requires you to get close to the downed teammate and large health packs and Phoenix is somewhere between in terms of HP and speed, equipped with SMGs, used a defib as well but has a healing pulse which heals himself and his teammates around him and like the name suggests, he can revive himself.

However, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of focus on roles and what I mean with that is even a medic can go berserk and just mow down the entire enemy team because the lack of weapon variety so majority of the mercs share the same weapons except only 2 mercs can use sniper rifles and only Phantom can equip a katana for example.
Not really that big of a deal but it can encourage some medics to just kill enemies and heal themselves instead of being with the team when they need a medic.

Players start with only 2 mercs (medic and support merc) out of 16 mercs which kinda blows but there's a rotation of 3 purchasable mercs which change every two weeks and this far there has been always an engineer in the rotation and you can also buy mercs with credits (in-game currency, there's no premium currency) so you don't necessarily have to use real money and you definitely don't have to buy all of them.

Also, progression only rewards players with money (only couple levels in the beginning) and cases but you get normal cases anyways every couple match you complete so it doesn't matter. Level seems to be only indicate how much a person have played and potentially his/her skills.
So basically you won't be ganked by douchebags just because they're 10+ level higher than you and got access to that lvl bzillion weapon or they bought OP weapons with real money. You'll get ganked by douchebags because they're better than you.

=Monetization=
There are also multiple different weapons and perks but the way those works is rather... "interesting". Usually you could customize what weapons and perks you would like to use but in this game... NOPE! You have loadout cards with perks (except default loadout cards. Lead = 1 perk, Iron = 2 perks and Bronze and above = 3 perks (Silver, Gold and Cobalt cards only have a different skin so you won't get any benefit from having those)) primary, secondary and melee weapon attached to the card and you can't edit your cards. You can create next tier card from lower tier cards and small amount of credits.
You can obtain loadout cards from cases which do not require a key to open, you get a free case every few matches you play and buy them for 1k credits, buy expert and elite cases with real money, buy bronze cards individually or a bundle (loadout bundles are not really worth of real money or credits since usually only 2-3 cards per merc are good/okay) with credits or real money (obvs it'll take some time before you would be able to buy everything).
There's a missions which give you a good amount of credits but they don't reset daily and you can remove a mission if you want a different one on next refill, which will happen every 3 hours.

So yeah, it's a pretty damn good game if fast-phased is your sort of thing even tho monetization is a little bit weird and it took a second to comprehend since it's not something you see everyday.
However, the game isn't optimized the best way possible so if the game runs like ass (or you just simply want more frames) and you're experiencing sound lag/distortion, I found documents for tweaking the .ini file which will make the game look more or less worse or even kinda shite but they'll make the game run better and at least for me, the one I use got rid of the sound distortion.

One of the most iconic and polarizing figures in modern gaming history has recently passed away this week.
Never had a video game company had a man at the helm who was as heartwarming and humble as this man was. And to be honest, Nintendo probably may not be the same without him. It is a sad day for gamers across the world, and to Iwata's friends and family.
Thanks for everything, man. I hope you have as much fun in a better place. I can't wait to see what amazing games you may be programming when I see you next time.

Checked what the game was about early 2013 and it looked quite cool so I picked it and... pretty much fell in love with it.

-ahem- yeah...
Soo... what the game is about?

Killing Floor is a co-op zombie/monster/whatever (well, they're clones actually, aka Zeds) shoottery shooty shoot survival indie game by Tripwire Interactive on Steam, which was originally UT 2004 total conversion mod in 2005 and retail version was released in early 2009.

In game, you and your team of up 6 people try to survive wave after another of nasty monsters from spider-like Crawlers to chainsaw wielding Scrakes with the power of friendship!... I mean... teamwork.
There are 7 perks which can be level up to level 6 (don't let that number fool you, it takes good amount of time to get to the max level) and obvs, every level increases the benefits [link].
Selection of ~40 weapons (+ 12 DLC weapons) which you buy from the trader after each wave (few can be found lying around on the map) and the best part is... none of them are locked to a specific perk (I really hate when they do that in co-op games) so you can go nuts and play Sharpshooter with a shotgun if you so desire.
Maps wary from large and wide-open maps to smaller and claustrophobic + you can choose where to fight and when to run.
And surprise! After all "regular" waves are done you have to fight the big bad boss, The Patriarch.

What else... oh yeah! The gunplay in Killing Floor is absolutely fantastic and not having a crosshair is just a cherry on top... or maybe popping/ cutting heads and limbs are the cherry.
Zed time (their own little name for slow motion) which randomly occurs after killing Zeds.
Also... 3 events: Hillbilly Horror, Summer Sideshow and Twisted Christmas, which have contained major updates but also special Zed skins and achievements that were there only during these events (except they unlocked event stuff not too long ago)

Aside from the goodies what devs have provided, there's the modding community... and they have done lots of stuff.
Lots of new weapons, maps, Zeds and other mods such as Scrn Balance which allows to balance and enhance the basic game like 7+ player servers instead of 6 and changing the limit of how many Zeds are on the field at the same time (currently enjoying servers with 60+ Zeds while default is 32).

So... After 5 years of the release, it sold nearly 3 million copies and ~10 million DLCs (every indie dev's wet dream)... and of course, they announced KF2 which will be making it's way to Steam, SteamOS and PS4.

Currently what they've told & shown includes more perks, Zeds (+ old Zeds aren't just visually upgraded) and... well, more everything + stuff like apparently being able to parry with melee weapons and this time around, there are apparently 20+ ways to destroy Zeds' bodies such as destroying ex. upper left side of Zeds' skull, revealing their brains instead of being able to just cut head and limbs and their blood doesn't disappear from the map unlike in the original so you can paint the map... the gore is real.
6th Gen Pokemon.
Pokemon X & Y.
Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire.
Possible Pokemon Z?

The games.
The anime.
Possible movies.

What's your general opinion?

Games, personally I found X & Y uninteresting to say the least, but I liked OR/AS's revamped plot and extra content. I'll give it a B I suppose, since there was some things I liked about X/Y, and OR/AS more than made up for the amount of flaws X/Y had.

Anime, not gonna lie, 6th gen got me back into watching the anime shows again. I really enjoyed the cast of characters and the general direction the 6th gen anime is taking. 4th gen made me quit watching and 5th gen didn't do enough to make me want to give it another shot.

Movies, I haven't seen any 6th gen movies come out yet, or if they have, I have yet to see them. No opinion as of yet.

Monster Hunter!!!!!

Monster Hunter is series of awesome action RPG games.
While it's a RPG game, it doesn't have typical RPG traits like leveling up or class selection during character creation. Instead, the only way to be able to take more hits and deal more damage is to make and upgrade your equipment, which can be done by killing monsters and using their parts and while there's actually two different classes, blademaster and gunner, your class is determined by what weapon you're using (melee weapons - blade, ranged weapons - gunner. obvs).
Monsters vary from small insects to large wyver-*something* hybrids and other cool things.

So, I bought this game from the eShop as soon as it came out. It's pretty fun. Some of the levels are actually pretty tough and I like the use of the whole super effective thing.

I thought it would be pretty popular because it's so cheap but I haven't actually StreetPassed anyone in forever, so I don't know if very many people around here have it. Or a 3DS any more. XD
Does anyone else play this? Thoughts/opinions?

Having not completed the game myself as of yet, I find it to be quite amazing for what I initially thought would be really "childish". There's a great interactive battle system (more than just turn-based), some puzzle solving here and there, a fairly good cast of characters and party members alongside some great music. There are also sidequests and even a crafting system (though not as immersive as it could be). I'm having one hell of a time with this game and am enjoying it thoroughly.
Does anyone else have the game? Opinions/Tips?
