he died last saturday of a tumor in his bile duct. apparently he had been fighting cancer for a long time.

it's not like i knew him or anything, but it's still sad when someone like this dies.

I honestly think this is the saddest I've been about a famous person dying since Steve Irwin. Iwata was the absolute embodiment of everything Nintendo stood for. He wasn't just a CEO, he was so much more than that. He genuinely cared about the fans, he cared about the games they released, and he cared about video games in general. It wasn't about the money to him, it was about the games and about us.

We truly lost a great man.
Here's where I would write something I think is witty at the time, and later realize I'm an ass.

^ This. Hearing about it made me ultra sad in a way that I haven't been in a long time. He made me love Nintendo so much more. I think it was a pretty huge blow to most Nintendo fans. Truly a great loss. v.v
