Dice of a Liar - Andy - 09-25-2014

Sitting at a table, Ambrose peeked under the cup he was using to hide his dice. Hm... two ones, a six, a three, and two fives... not good. He masked his displeasure, straightening to look at the other five seated at the round table with him. They were a curious bunch, unlike any other group he'd seen. 'Ragtag' and 'Misfits' would describe them well enough, at least at first glance. They were all in a tavern, one which was wealthy enough to have its own band of mercenaries contracted as guards, as well as a little variety in the games the owners could offer. Card games were on another table, but the one he was at now was playing a game called 'Liar's Dice.'

There was no House, or dealer, just an employee watching them so that no one would steal the dice or cups. Everyone had six six-sided die under their cups, and the object of the game was to play up the amount or value of dice one had until someone called another a liar, at which point the accused revealed his dice. If he or she was truthful, he or she won the accuser's bet. If he or she was a liar, he or she lost their own.

The standard bet was five gold pieces. Ambrose pushed the coins forward, waiting for the others to do the same.

The immaculately beautiful long-haired boy wasn't sure how he got here, only that what he was doing was surprisingly interesting compared to its initial premise.

He hadn't played this that much. Drinking and gambling was more Kalin's thing, but how hard could this be? As long as he used his head he'd never lose.

One of each number.

Maybe he would still lose. None-the-less, a bet was a bet. He pushed forward his 5 gold pieces. No need to be frugal; stealing more never proved difficult.

Ingrid sat at the dice table, quietly eyeing the dice under her cup. She hadn't really come in here intending to gamble; she'd merely came here for the food, and was only staying out of curiosity. Really, she knew it was probably unwise to be here right now, given her general lack of income. Still, what could five coins hurt?

Hm, a four, a one, two sixes, a five, and a two... is that good? Ingrid had never actually played this before; she hoped that wasn't transparently obvious, but she had a feeling some of the tougher-looking individuals here could probably tell.

Ingrid gently placed five coins with the others on the table, then waited for everyone who hadn't done so to do likewise.

At last the bets were all down, and the game could begin. Ambrose wasn't the starter for it, however. "Five 2s," one of the men to his left said, keeping his hand firmly on his cup, looking around the table. It was a relatively low guess, considering the number of players. Ambrose stayed silent, letting the man after that take his turn.

He guessed it was a man, anyway. The face of the person was beautiful, with long hair like women typically wore theirs, but there were enough hints of masculinity that Ambrose figured the person was a man.

You'd think mindgames would be easy for a guy like me... what to do, what to do.

One of each, what a fucking mess... Guess I'll just test the waters.

"Five 3s."
