Lets begin, shall we?
First of all, eragon's dad gets killed by king's forces, lukes dad gets killed by storm troopers. Brom gets killed by kings minion, obi wan kenobi gets killed by darth vaider. Both have "miracles" done to their graves. murtagh son of morzan, secong most important enemy, luke son of darth vaider, second important enemy (first being emporer). Eragon gets stabed by the shade, thus paralyzing him in a way, luke gets hand cut off ( self explanitory). Brom is a mysterious storyteller hermit that is a dragon rider, kenobi is a hermit that is really a jedi. Murtagh becomes dragon rider and fights eragon, anakin becomes jedi and fights kenobi (doesn't really fit, but o well). I rest my case ( there may be other little details that i missed). Don't get me wrong, i like the eragon books, but i just think its a little to much like star wars, storyline-wise. (IMG:style_emoticons/blue/irritated.gif) |

Damn Anti-Shur'tugal for taking off the Epistler's writings. They pointed out the flaws so beautifully.
Anyway, Eragon is basically a sociopathic self-insert Mary Sue that Paolini should've used for Dungeons and Dragons instead of a whole book series. Also, the bondage-clad Arwen is proof that Paolini is a very lonely man. |

(IMG:style_emoticons/blue/irritated.gif) I like the series too and I can certainly see the connection. I think the details in Eldest are what set it apart though. The details of magic and the history of Alagasia as well as Roran and Nasuada's perspectives were nice. |

if the elves are so damn powerful, just as powerful if not more so than eragon (which to me is a typo that was meant to be dragon) then why don't they just kick the shit out of emperor dominatrix or whatever his name is?

Eragon has faaaar too many inconsistencies.
For example, if the elves are vegetarians, why is Arya wearing a black leather |

What do you expect from a book written by a kid? It's hardly surprising if the plot lacks originality, is it?

Cause I could write a better book than him if I could put forth the effort. >_> The only reason Paolini was ever published in the first place was because his parents owned the company. Eragon sucks, the character sucks; he even writes in his author's note at the end of the book that Eragon was basically just a cooler fantasy version of himself. |

What do you expect from a book written by a kid? It's hardly surprising if the plot lacks originality, is it? HOLD IT. Paolini was fifteen when he STARTED Eragon. Right now, he's in his early twenties, but his writing style has not improved at all, and in fact is comparable to some of the fifteen year old Eragon fanfiction writers. That is not a good thing; you should be able to tell the difference between a fanfiction writer's style, and his style. Oh, and SJ, he's putting out a fourth Eragon book after the third, because he felt that "there was too much story for just a trilogy." |

Oh, and SJ, he's putting out a fourth Eragon book after the third, because he felt that "there was too much story for just a trilogy." That's actually pretty funny. He hasn't improved in over five years? Wow. Still, quality aside, it's pretty admirable that he had the perserverence to write three popular books, especially at such an age. Even if it's not hard to find someone that can write a better story, it's not exactly a common thing to find someone that is determined enough to see it through, and still manage to capture the public eye in the incredibly competetive world of fiction. |

he got lucky, plain and simple. I still think that the elves should just do all thework themselves but all in all not the absolute worst book in existence.

Yes, I could probably write a better book than Paolini if I devoted all my time to write a quality novel. (IMG:style_emoticons/blue/tongue.gif)
I really disliked how the elves were practically perfect, I mean come on! If they were absolutely flawless, then there would be no need for Eragon. xD I found the series a decent one to follow. Just as Smack Johnson said, I can't leave a story unfinished; I have to keep going.. And yes, I think Eragon should start wielding a lightsaber instead of a sword. QUOTE Yes, I could probably write a better book than Paolini if I devoted all my time to write a quality novel. I really disliked how the elves were practically perfect, I mean come on! If they were absolutely flawless, then there would be no need for Eragon. xD Vanity is their weakness. I think Oromis mentioned that. QUOTE if the elves are so damn powerful, just as powerful if not more so than eragon (which to me is a typo that was meant to be dragon) then why don't they just kick the shit out of emperor dominatrix or whatever his name is? I think Murtagh said Galbatorix was involved in magics the elves didn't dare consider. QUOTE Eragon has faaaar too many inconsistencies. For example, if the elves are vegetarians, why is Arya wearing a black leather bondage outfit? (IMG:style_emoticons/blue/XD.gif) Nice find. I don't think I realized that when I read it. |
