(This post is outdated. New info was shown on April 1st, 2015. No, really)

Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem was announced back in January 2013, and we haven't received any new info on it besides it being an RPG (Traditional japanese RPG? Tactical RPG?).
Atlus was going through some financial issues last year, if I recall correctly, which might have affected this game's development.
Hopefully, at this year's E3 we will get some new info on it. If we don't, it might have been cancelled.

First, I'd like to see HOW THE HELL it will connect two franchises with different settings in a way that kinda sorta makes sense.
Also, will alignments (a staple of SMT) come into play?
Will there be permadeath AND Hama/Mudo? (Light and dark instant-death spells; human characters are usually immune to Hama)
T rating? M rating? (M for Mara)
Not sure what to think of it so far, though it had definitely reserved a spot in my wallet when it was announced.

I'm also not sure what to expect with the battle system though (assuming it will be an RPG) though I feel WTA will be a shoe-in if anything.
Personally, I have mixed feelings about this.

Crossovers are either really good, or really bad, and the really bad ones overweigh the really good ones. I really hope they do good with this game, honestly, because with the amount of money going into the production of this game, if this game turns out to be a flop, it will outright KILL Fire Emblem as a franchise. (at least outside of Japan)
I've actually never played SMT and I wasn't planning on getting a WiiU. It's expensive and there aren't really any games for it that I want. But I'll buy one just for the FE. v.v;; I'm bad for that. lol That's the whole reason I bought a Wii and a 3DS.

I'm hoping it's enjoyable. I'm really not big on crossovers... at all. lol But I've really enjoyed all of the FE games I've ever played, so I'm hoping this one's good and not a huge waste of almost $400. -.-;;;;

They had a promotion on a little while ago for the latest SMT but I didn't have any money so I didn't end up buying it. To be honest I have no idea what that game series is even like. XD

Well, the wii-u isn't that big of a waste of money. There's:

New Super Mario Bros U
New Super Luigi U
Dr. Luigi
Mario Kart 8 (in 24 days)
Super Smash Bros (later this year)
Monster Hunter Tri Ultimate
Monster Hunter 4
Mario Party 10 (sometime soon)
A new Paper Mario game (also sometime soon)

And plenty of others that I'm definitely interested in possibly getting. Wii-U started with a weak lineup, but rest assured, come E3, they will be pushing out really amazing games. If you're planning to get a Wii-U, now's probably the best time to get it.
The Super Mario games have been painfully easy and dull lately. Mario Kart 8 is going to be on the 3DS, too, isn't it? I know SSB will be, but I guess it would be cool to get it for the WiiU. I don't have friends, so Mario Party isn't really enjoyable. lol The latest Paper Mario wasn't nearly as good as the Thousand Year Door and I haven't even finished it yet. I've never played any of the Monster Hunter games, either. Normally, I'd just shrug and get them anyway, but money is really super ultra tight right now. School sucks and is expensive and I'm poor. v.v;;; XD
Here's some info for those not in the know (not that I'm an expert on the matter myself, though).
Shin Megami Tensei is one of the big 3 RPG franchises in Japan, along with Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy. In this side of the world, it's better known as of late for the Persona subseries.

The games consist of fighting and recruiting all sorts of mythological entities, called "demons" (despite also including the nine orders of angels, Michael, Odin, Shiva, Amaterasu, Osiris, etc.), in apocalyptic scenarios; this makes it sort of a proto-Pokémon.

Your alignment changes depending on your choices throughout the game, and will affect the demons you can recruit, and the bosses you fight. There's usually three alignments: Law, Neutral and Chaos.
The usual Law ending has the protagonist create a world of peace and order, but a tyrannical lack of free will, under YHVH's rule.
Neutral endings have the protagonist defeat both YHVH (or a messenger of His in some games) and Lucifer, in order to allow mankind to persevere. Might seem to be the happiest endings, but they're almost as grim as the others, because humans are bound to repeat their mistakes.
Chaos endings throw the world in anarchy and war, in which the weak are killed or enslaved by the strong.
With all honesty... well... I couldn't give a rat's ass what's going to happen...
...idk, it's probably Awakening's fault. It was good game for sure but... poor compared to rest of the series IMO... soo... yeah... there you go.
and I've never been into SMT pretty much... at all... all I can remember that I tried one SMT once and that's it.

Hmm...
Hitoshi Yamagami (july 2013) Wrote:"For a long time, I’ve wanted to create a Fire Emblem in our times, in the real world. Imagine a Pegasus that comes from the sky and lands on Building 109 of Shibuya, Tokyo. I always thought that would be incredible. At the same time, I know it’s hard because of how Fire Emblem is. I visited many companies to express these ideas. When I went to Atlus, I was told that Shin Megami Tensei together with Fire Emblem is what I wanted. So, I soon said that to Intelligent Systems and started this very special collaboration. Oops! I shouldn’t say that the game takes place in the real world. We haven’t announced it, right?"

Try Super Mario World 3D?

Luigi one is pretty much the same as Mario but with Luigi in and only 100 seconds AKA New Super Luigi Wii U 100 sec shenanigans.

I hope they aren't just beating the dead horse...

If you plan to buy one for 3DS, get CPP or you will have some pretttyyy hard time.

You haven't tried New Super Luigi U, have you? I find it to be quite brutal.

Also, there's Super Mario 3D World, which I neglected to mention.

Wii-U exclusive.

The new Paper Mario game hasn't even gone midway into production. I wouldn't bash on it until more information is released. But still though, it's another thing to look forward to.

You should. They are pretty fun games, and the online is pretty good. If you like RPGs, you'll definitely like it. Though, if you're going to get the games, I suggest getting them on the home console (Wii-U) and I highly advise against getting the handheld versions.

I know the feeling. ;~;
I can't say much for SMT (my roommate is a big fan, but I haven't played any) but I assume the game will be a tactical RPG like FE, I can't imagine it working well in another context. As for the game itself, I got nothing. I thought Pokemon Conquest was already an absurd enough crossover, but it isn't too farfetch'd (ba dum tiss) to imagine Pokemon existing in other time periods and settings. SMT and FE are so wildly distant and specific to their own settings that I have no idea how they'll bridge the gap. My guess would be more time travel like in Awakening, but even then it still sounds pretty wacky.

Next we'll get Fire Emblem x Dead Space or something...

Replace demons with Fire Emblem characters and that's what I expect out of this game.
Having been getting acquainted with the anime, I'm pretty sure that the SMT chars will be summoning FE chars through w/e mobile devices they have.
SMT characters summoning FE characters does seem likely, based on the trailer, which shows a modern city near the end.

I'm expecting the battle system to resemble a FE'ized devil survivor. Upon entering a battle, extra turns are awarded at the beginning of the round if you're fast enough (conventional doubling mechanic), or perhaps on hitting with an effective weapon type (I'm pretty well positive this will be their implementation of the weapon triangle). Whether "units" will consist of one or more characters at a time is up in the air; between the two series, there's precedent for one (classic FE), two (dual system in awakening, would also serve as a good compromise), or three (SMT devil survivor featured a human leader and a demon on either side of them, which collectively made a unit).

I'm particularly curious as to whether they'll use the FE damage formula or the SMT damage formula. While both games use "small" stat values, and thus are pretty comparable there, SMT has large HP due to a multiplicative formula, while FE has small HP with a subtractional formula.
So, E3 is over... and no new info.
However, during a press conference about Codename STEAM, Hitoshi Yamagami said SMTxFE's development is "right on schedule".
So, Overclocked was on sale in the eShop so I bought it. It's actually pretty fun, I like it so far. Honestly, if executed properly, I think this crossover could be really awesome. I'm actually really looking forward to it now. =^.^=
Ok, we FINALLY got some info on this one.

The japanese title is "Genei Ibunroku #FE", which probably translates to "Illusory Revelations #FE"
So far, it doesn't look much like either a mainline SMT or a Fire Emblem.

From what the trailer shows, the game will focus on a group of modern-day Tokyo high-schoolers that are part of an underground magical club.

I'm hearing a lot of comparisons to Persona. I suppose the characters are based on FE characters, in that one of the main characters has blue hair and another looks like Tiki.

This is really Japan. It's so Japan, I have my doubts if it will ever leave Japan. If it does, it will be a Gamestop exclusive just like Xenoblade (with a similar rarity).
So...now that the game is out in the for almost everyone but Australia, perhaps this could be revived a bit. I just finished the prologue, and despite not actually finishing a Persona game, I see so much Persona in this game so far. The spells I've gotten so far match ones I've seen in Persona 4, the combat is Persona-esque. Funnily enough, the level up screen looks like a Persona level up, but with FE stats, FE level up fanfare, and FE tic noises for stats going up. No english voice acting though.
Yeah, the game was confirmed to only have the Japanese voices, It looks A LOT like persona with FE sprinkled in....more like FE Flavored Persona the game~
